Jane and Jenny decided to start this blog in order to update the many people across the country — the world, possibly — who have been touched by Nanny’s sweet presence.
Here’s what we know of Nanny’s life so far. According to foster family, Nanny was found on the side of a road in Tennessee, clawing at a sealed cardboard box. Inside the box were her litter of pups. Only one survived.
Underweight and taumatized, she was brought to Hillcrest Animal Hospital by Tipton Treasures. There, she was spayed and treated for worms. At the end of July, she made her way to Providence to be fostered with a PAWS New England volunteer until she found her forever home.
This is where we come in. We’ve always wanted a dog (not a puppy), and we always imagined that dog would a Pit Bull. But we’re apartment-dwellers, a situation not always conducive to dog ownership. Our new landlord consented and we started searching on Petfinder. Intrigued by Nanny’s profile, we made inquiries and set up a time to meet her on 4th of July, 2008. We were approved for adoption, and she was home with us a week later.
Nanny is a sweet dog with an aura of sadness. Intensely shy and a little skittish, we know that we will have to work to build her confidence and trust.
There are many people to acknowledge and thank for bringing Nanny into our lives. First, we’d like to thank whoever took the moment to notice a strange dog at the side of the road and bring her to safety. To the staff at Hillcrest, who cared for her and made her healthy – THANK YOU. To the volunteers at PAWS New England, Joanne and Heather, who arranged her transport to Providence and then fostered her, we offer big, wet, slobbery dog kisses. Not only are we grateful, but I know Nanny is, too. You are all heroes.

Congratulations to the happy family. Nanny is so cute and looks well loved. I am very happy for you all
